Help : races

Each has many unique qualities.  The races dwell in one of the 
three domains: Earth, Shadows,  or Underdark. Travel to other
domains is possible, but difficult. For each race there is a 
homeland where they start out and can acquire special racial skills.

Currently there are ten known races:
Earth races are: human, elf, dwarf, halfling, merfolk,
Shadows races are: ghoul, demon, werewolf, vampyr, wraith    
Underdark races are: dark elf and deep dwarf (when evil)

Not all races can be join every class, currently, dwarves are restricted
from being mages.

Humans
______

Humans are the most widespread race.  They resemble the humans
of Earth closely, but are able to use the Magical energies of
Dead of Night fairly well.  As you might expect, they make their homes
anywhere where they can prosper.

Drow

The dark elves are by and large the best-known, most organized, and most
powerful race beneath the surface of the earth.  Drow in the past have even
dominated the surface lands around their lairs.  Communities of drow rule
the lands beneath much of the earth domain, and smaller nations may be found
above ground, mainly in mountainous areas.

In all the Underdark, few races command as much fear, and hatred, as
the dark elves. Driven underneath the earth long ago, they have
evolved as a true power in the darkness. Skilled in both sorcery and
steel, few can match drow grace, beauty, cruelty, and deadliness.
The seat of drow power is the city of Wosuerlik.....

Elves

These are the elves of forests high, and caverns deep. They value nature\n\
for its beauty, and vitality, and will defend nature in any way they can.
They excel in the use of magic. They usually wear light armour and use
spears or bow style weapons.

The Elven race was the first to step onto the earth of Dead of Night.
Eldest of races they have perfected music and art to a level yet to
be matched by other races. They have also elevated magic and combat
to a deadly level. Despite the formidity of elven warriors, one is
hard pressed to find a more carefree, joyful race.  The elves are
known for their love of the forest, the earth, and the skies above.
The greatest of Elf cities is Talanthas, lying in the northwestern
part of the world, rivaled only by its cavernous city of Worsuerlik.

Beneath Earth, few races command as much fear, and hatred, as
the dark elves. Driven underneath the earth long ago, they have
evolved as a true power in the darkness. Skilled in both sorcery and
steel, few can match drow grace, beauty, cruelty, and deadliness.

You will be Elf or Drow form based upon your alignment.

Dwarves
________

The dwarves are an old people, and a proud race. Most are extremely
brave, and extremely strong for being an average height of four feet.
Most are fat, but for dwarves, this is natural and hampers them in
no way. Usually living in caverns, or completely beneath the earth,
they are excellent blacksmiths, and are adept at tanning hides as well.
Fond of heavy armour and axes, they tend to drink more then any, and
sing whenever the chance arises.  It is assumed that much of the deepest
construction of the area beneath the Earth is done by the gray dwarves.
They often sell their services and loyalty to more powerful creatures
in exchange for wealth and a form of protection.

Ghouls
______

A product of chaotic madness and disease, ghouls are a blatant example
of the evil that exists within us all. Members of this race suffer from
a hideous disease in which the internal organs scavange upon the rest of
the body. The only way to slow this affliction is to feed upon the
flesh and souls of other living beings. However, this does not mean Ghouls
are weak... for suffering has made them strong, pain has honed them to a
deadly force.

Halflings

Every surface race has its specialties. Elves have an affinity for nature
dwarves have a talent for the forge. As for the halflings, they are famous
for perfecting the art of comfort. There's nothing a halfling enjoys more
than a hearty meal served with a fine glass of berry wine. They are masters
at smoking and have learned to blow the perfect smoke ring. And no night
in a halfling home is complete without a story by the fire or a little song
and dance. Although a halfling stands much shorter than a human or an elf
do not underestimate these brave folk, for in that diminutive body lies a
heart as big as can be found in any race, and a well of courage that is often
suprising to anyone who ever sees it, including the halfling themselves!
Rarely wearing shoes they padd about on their furry feet as silent as
a soft breeze, and they're nimble hands move quicker than the eye can see.
The halflings hail from the town of Halfton, known for it's fine food and
hospitality, as beffitting the home of the halflings!

Demons
______

Demons are well, demons.  Demons come in various shapes and sizes.
A demon might have horns, a tail, talons, spikes, wings, or hooves.
A demon might come in the form of a human, a succubus, a lizardman,
a gorgon, an incubus, or others. A demon may also adopt several
aspects, flame, ice, electric, or whatever.

Demons may need to grow certain appendages or take certain forms
for some of their skills to work.

Werewolf
__________

Werewolves are neither human, nor wolf, but a race unique to themselves.
In human form, werewolves are almost indistinguishable, but they are
prey to their curse, which turns their form uncontrollably during new
and full moons, regardless of where the creature tries to hide.  A
werewolf in its wolf form becomes very strong, powerful, and quick, but
loses the ability to maintain weapons, and often loses whatever it is
wearing due to immense growth.  While a young werewolf is complete prey
to the effects of the curse, older, more experienced werewolves have
been rumored to control some of the detrimental effects of the curse.
Silver and fire are particularly harmful to a werewolf, in either of
its forms.  Werewolves are able to be mages, but suffer much during
their transformation periods.

Merfolk
_______

The merfolk are creatures of the sea, though they have adapted to be able
to survive on land as well.  Many people believe that the merfolk do not
really exist, because they keep themselves well hidden under the water
and look much like humans when they walk the surface.  Even so, there are
travellers who tell stories of having been enchanted by beautiful mermaids
or viciously attacked by a merman protecting his territory.
Merfolk are able to breathe both water and air, but must keep themselves
wet when they venture out of the sea.

Vampyr
______

Vampyrs are the most normal of the shadows races.  They are
constantly held in a solid state.  They are in constant quest
for blood from people and monsters.  They can be harmed by most
weapons, but it is said only certain ones can kill them.

The Vampyr are a particularly dangerous race from the shadow lands. This
is due to the fact that vampyrs look very similar to normal humans. The
difference is that vampyrs thrive on and thirst for blood, and have at
their fingertips many supernatural powers to aid them in their hunger.

Sunlight, silver, flame and holiness are very harmful to vampyrs, but
not necessarily lethal.  Disease and poison may harm a vampyr, but in 
most cases not noticeably.  One can encounter a Vampyr at any time of
the day or night, however, during the day, they are much weaker. The
vampyrs live in the town of Donshire on the fringes of the shadowlands
where they might easily move into the lands of light to satiate their
thirst for blood and violence.

Vampyr Blood Points can only be gained by draining blood from other
beings. Blood Points are used for many vampyr blood rites. Vampyr
skills and bloodrites include : charm, drain, fly, mist, neckbite,
trance, and wristbite

A vampyr cannot cast a blood rite in the sun, and will steadily lose
blood and then hit points if it is out in the sun for too long. When
a vamp loses all of its hitpoints, it becomes one level weaker, until
it reaches its weakest point when it can be destroyed permanently. The
strength of a vamp is largely dependent on its environment, in doors or
underground, it is much the same strength as a man, in the sunlight,
much weaker, and in the nighttime air, a vamp can be very strong indeed.

Wraith
______

Wraiths are considered by many to be the most evil of races. They are not
held to the physical world, except by their own choice to remain partially
within this world, and their fear to continue on to eternity. Their existance
is a harsh one, eternity causes many to go mad. Fear and death are a constant
companion. Yet through adversity comes strength, and adversity is the only
thing that comes easily to a wraith.
